Prophet 5 3.2 Feedback for mod

Post by boof » Sun Aug 21, 2016 2:09 pm

Hello all,
First post here. I have on hold a prophet 5 3.2 that is in very very good condition and even has the original box it came in.

I have the option to have a modification done to add an additional 200 patch slots added for a total of 320 memory slots to the prophet.
The only downside is that it will mean the person doing the mod would have to drill a hole on the panel and add a knob.

I am looking for peoples advice and opinions if doing a mod like this to a good condition prophet will decrease the value or add to the value and peoples suggestions.

In part I would like to do the mod to have the additional slots open for my own patches and still retain the factor patches in the original 120 slots but I don't want to "paint the Porsche pink" so to speak. in other words take something of high value and ruin it by making modifications that would result in the value going down the tubes.

Also is it difficult to take the wav files for the original banks and reload them onto a prophet? I have read here and there that it is a bit hit an miss. anyone have good step by step ABC 123 instructions for this?

Apologies if this comes across as very newbie but I am a guitar player really but have a love for the 80s synths.

In advance thank you very much for your feedback

JB

As a proud owner of a prophet 5.....I wouldn't do it.

You can upgrade to 120 with the 3.3 chip....without drilling.

I'd be inclined to think that you'd be painting the Porsche pink.

I prefer to buy synths unmodded.

The additional patches would be great for a performance synth. In this day, I wouldn't be using a Prophet as my performance synth.

I say don't do it.

Don't really see the point of doing that, 120 patches is more than enough for anyone who is in the market for one, and adding drill holes and buttons only brings the value down. Kind of like painting the porsche pink, yes.

All,
Thanks for your feedback and its pretty clear what the majority opinion here is.
they are going to put the 3.3 chip in to give it the full 120 and also put Kenton midi in.
As for the drilling on the top for the additional 200 patches. I think I am going to pass on that.
Again thanks for your thoughts.

Not to get too snooty about it, but the correct metaphor might be "adding a slant-nose/whail tail/mega-flared fender kit" to the Porsche! :D

(a lot of nice 70s 911's used to get wrecked this way)
