Are the knobs and sliders more stable with through hole pcb?salwa wrote:May I ask why?recordbot wrote:hoping for through hole PCB
Though Roland does have some modern analog technology to use, if they release boutique style instruments, it's not very likely they will be analog. Given what we know about the cards Roland's holding at the moment, we should expect then to play their hand accordingly. It's not impossible that they would be analog, simply much less likely.
Considering analog technology is a huge selling point, if they do utilize it, I predict it would only yield partially analog instruments, viz.. a mostly virtual 909 with an analog bass drum (or something to that effect).
Realisticly, I would expect 2 or 3 new editions to the boutique lineup. Each of the previously existing boutiques have the same internals, but with the main chip utilizing different software. Therefore, probably the new boutiques will have the same internals but with the main chip utilizing different software.
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

Re: Roland 909 Day
I doubt they'd be analog, they look like Roland's attempt at Volcas only using their ACB technology, same as the Boutiques. I dunno, they could be fun, provided they're cheap which I'm guessing they will be. It's not like anyone can actually afford a real 909 anymore.

I know a lot of people say they prefer working on surface mount but I'm just thinking on average it will be easier to keep new units in working condition if they are easier for the average repair tech to work on,salwa wrote:May I ask why?recordbot wrote:hoping for through hole PCB
not a problem for people in big cities but a guy with a synth in a small town might have an easier time getting the local vacuum repair guy to work on his synth if it was a through hole pcb

Re: Roland 909 Day
It won't be through hole, this is a mass-produced product. The people saying they want through hole don't know what they're talking about, sorry.

I think we all really know what we are going to get...ACB in two new boxes....I will be pleased if we don't but can't see it happening.

Whether real or photoshoped, the stick bender in this photo makes my day. I personally do not get along with the shuttle wheel.Syn303 wrote:

if the 808 and 909 are classic instruments of specific genres it isn't too far fetched to imagine that eventually Roland will figure out that reproducing an exact reissue of those instruments will be very successful
obviously Roland isn't as advanced as Korg in this respect, even though friends of mine who have played both MS20 told me specifically that selling my original MS20 to replace it with a reissue mini or full size kit version would be a big mistake
these photos are aira line things? they look cool, especially stoked for the system poly synth which will hopefully come in under 1000 (1799 more likely) and be available dent box style for 500-600 within 3 years. Would like to know how many old Roland poly sets will they make, will the plug outs be available for use with the system 1, will plug out production for the system 1 stop now that the system 8 is available.
roland is on the right track but I think they would do well for boutique production of 909s and 808s exact copies, if thats the main axe of Hip Hop R&B Dance genres just keep the thing available as long as people keep buying them, people would buy those for 1200-1500 all day long
I think Roland is losing face taking so long to catch up with Korg in this respect.

Re: Roland 909 Day
I don't think roland want to go the Korg route and put out a reissue. That kills a lot of the craving for the product, and roland is continually capitalizing on the craving for 808s, 909s, etc. Right now, Korg can't really capitalize on the ms-20 anymore. Could you see a VA ms20 clone going well? Of course not, people would just buy the analog reissue. Roland understands this, as they understand the elusiveness of the originals is their cash cow. I predict they will stick to emulations as long as they can to get as much milk from the cow as possible.
