I think something got lost there between engineering and marketing. Starting on E just means you can play the full range of the line without dicking around with the transpose button all the time. Marketing decided that concept required too much brain.Uncle Screwtape wrote:elsongs wrote:2. Dude, basses with more than 4 strings go down to low B. Low E ain't low enough! Why not just come out and say "Since we think you guitarists can't find an E without putting it at the end, we moved it two spaces to the left for ya.

Re: Korg Monologue
Well those Volca VS renders were like high school Photoshop so not exactly surprised there. Brings up the question though, what are they doing with the VS technology? Seems a reboot of some kind would make sense especially the lack of Wave synth on the market.
Monologue, yeah not bad, not sure I need one but it looks like a pretty cool toy to have. The name is interesting, wonder if we'll get the Shakespeare edition with "TB or not TB" 303 patches

Yes, I guess that's where the microtuning is coming from.

Of course, there are times when youre not playing bass lines on an E chord. Optimizing the board for E over other chords and keys wouldn't be an issue if it just had 37 keys ...then you have two octaves in any key.madtheory wrote:Starting on E just means you can play the full range of the line without dicking around with the transpose button all the time. I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Very true- so marketing are trying to spin a disadvantage into an advantage.

Re: Korg Monologue
I sense a sonic affiliation between the Monologue and the Monotribe (the filter ?) ...
But for those who are disappointed, look at it this way:
2011, Monotribe, about $300

2016, Monotribe "upgrade": Monologue $300

Re: Korg Monologue
Real shame it doesn't have a resonant high-pass filter, like the MS-20. But Korg make odd choices. For example the MS-20 has a full-size, 3-octave keyboard, but the KARP Odyssey does not. It has one designed to be played by midgets, or 3 year olds*. Why Korg, why?

It doesn't sound that great for the money. I'd rather get a used BS2.
You always want just one more Synth!

Re: Korg Monologue
I've decided on the Minilogue, it may well be twice the price, but I think it offers more than twice the sonic "Ommph".
Someone mentioned a problem with the envelope triggering behaviour? I believe you can get round it by setting Portamento from "Off" to "0" - I think I heard about it on a Sonicstate video. I'll confirm it when it arrives.

Re: Korg Monologue
The envelope bug I'm talking about has nothing to do with portamento. It is about the retriggering.

Geez, seems like Korg put out a pretty cool mono synth for $300 ( which means even cheaper once it hits the streets) ... Glass half full or glass half empty?

Re: Korg Monologue
Supposedly the portamento setting takes care of that (I sold mine long before somebody figured it out so I can't confirm).pflosi wrote:The envelope bug I'm talking about has nothing to do with portamento. It is about the retriggering.
Time will tell how the Monologue handles it.
