First post in a long long time.....
I have had many many synths come and go through my studio over the years. Andromeda, Voyagers, Studio Electronics stuff, XTK, Pulse+, Nords, 106, 303, evolver, ion, Jomox stuff, FR Revolution, FR-XS, 909, and i'm sure there were others that I can't think of at the moment.
What I have left is a Largish 5U modular, Pro One, PEK, Juno 60, 777, 606, ER2, RS-09.
Questions:
1) The synth that made you want to play music:
Jupiter 8, Can't recall any specific song; however, a friend had one back in high school (early 90's) and it was just sooooooo baadd @$$!
2) Your first synth:
Alesis Ion. What a great first synth! Seriously! It's crazy, they sell for the same price today that they did when they were new..
3) The synth that has surprised you most:
Juno 60; lots of happy surprises with that simple interface... If you by chance happened to make a bad sounding patch, yea right - just turn the chorus on and it will sound amazing!
4) The synth that has disappointed you most:
Alesis Andromeda, the thing sounded friggin awesome; I loved the ribbon controller; however, the firmware just seemed so glitchy AND even though it had an enormous amount of knobs and buttons there was still a tremendous amount of menu diving involved in creating patches. I wanted to love it but in the end I couldn't
5) The synth you love most:
Pro One, I am on the fence about selling it to fund something new.... however I just love that thing. The filter is ground shaking, it plays wonderfully, with its basic mod routing it can sound bizarre, it can control my modular AND my modular can control it... I simply love that thing. What to do? What to do?
6) The synth you've gigged with the most:
Never played live7) THE synth you really would like to own:
DSI Prophet X It will most likely never happen. But, yep, I want it.
8) Your newest synth:
Future Retro 777 (purchased in 2007, I haven't bought anything in a really long time)9) The next synth you are going to buy:
DSI Rev2 16 Voice. I love my PEK but I want more voices and I am not going to shell out $2k for a PER (I should have bought one when they were selling for less than $1k)
10) The synth with the best filter:
Future Retro 77711) Favorite synth manufacturer: Probably DSI
