Korg SDD3300 ????

Postby portland » Tue May 15, 2007 1:12 am

I have the option to get one for $200.
But there is very little information on the internet about this "mythic" delay unit. Does anybody here know anything about it or have any opinions about it?

I borrowed one from my boss for several months, and it's a great unit. You can connect the three delay lines in all sorts of strange arrangements, and the ability to modulate delay times with the LFO leads to all sorts of bizarre warping echoes. It also does a nice chorus.

The delay doesn't exactly sound crisp though, it's a typical warm early-digital sound and you don't get much of it on each delay line. But the modulation options are why you buy this thing. Vibrato delays, strange rhythmic echo sequences and that sort of thing are where it shines.

The screens get very dim with time though, so it's worth checking that before you take the plunge (if you do).

This sums it up rather nicely:

I got mine for £65 so $200 seems pricey. I've seen several SDD units on ebay so I don't think they are rare. Mine seems to have a brand new display, it as bright as my evolver! Sound quality is excellent, it's no TC but it has a nice characterful sound. modulation options are numerous and it is almost like a synth in depth. Have been learning about the Haas effect and really got into delay programming. The chorus's and Ensemble effects are also excellent. It seems to be designed for a guitar input as a synth can overload the inputs quite easily. My electric violn sounded really sweet through it. I'm now considering a TC D2 and / or Yam E1010 to go with it.

Good price, buy it. Usually the price is inflated by over-hype.

Yeah, a SDD300 (which seems to be a more-analog 1/3 of this unit) went for like $1000 on ebay.
