Looking around at guitar center today, I was spying out some of the firewire control surfaces with line/mic inputs they had on display. One of the benefits from these is that you have everything contained all in one unit, and all you do is send it down to your daw for recording.

outside of the new protools 003 unit, M-audio had the project mix i/o that looked pretty sexy.

how would they perform to a PCI card such as the Emu 1820 soundwise? and what is the advantage between a PCI card vs a firewire control surface/digital mixer deal?
