Cassette portastudio degaussing?

Finally i got my hands on a Tascam portastudio 246!
I have a question though about what to use when to demagnetize the tape head. Is it a good idea to use one of those cassette tape format demagnetiser or should i get one used for reel to reel recorders? I would like to know any pro's and con's for either type of demagnetizer. What do you recommend?
Please let me know.

I used to use the cassettes and still had problems with missing tracks and such. I thought it was the alignment, but after I started using the degauser for my reel to reel and cleaning with q tips, the problem went away.
