I am thinking about getting a digital recording studio. It'll be my first.
I am feeling kind of overwhelmed about all the books out there covering the subject of home recording,so I am looking for recommendations on what you consider the best(and worst)of them.

Huber and Runstein's Modern Recording Techniques is very good and thorough, it's used as the primary text for quite a few audio production courses that I know of.

I second Modern Recording Techniques. We used this book in college where I got my degree in audio engineering. It's full of great tips and it's easy for anyone to understand. I can highly recommend it as a great starting point.

For other books on the topic, I would also recommend "Recording Tips for Engineers" for good tips on, well, recording and mic techniques. Also, "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" is a good book with quite a few tips as well as a collection of interviews from some of the most famous mixing engineers. We used all three of these books in college and I still refer to them every now and then to keep everything fresh in my head.

Yet another vote for Modern Recording Techniques. 600+ pages of good info that'll help you sort out what the h**l you're doing.

+1 Mixing Engineer's Handbook by Bobby Owsinski, almost done with it. Gonna go back through and write down my cliff notes to hang up visibly in the space. I'll definitely check out modern recording techniques, too.
