VST Compressors for Vox on a Budget
I am in dire need of a suggestion for a VST compression plugin for vocals, something to make my vocals sound a little bit more pro/smooth them out. I've heard good things about the Klanghelm DC8C, and it has a price point that is nice, as I'd like to keep it in the $50 range if possible. Realistically I'd like something that is somewhat easy to understand as compression has never been my strong point. What do you folks think?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Does Blockfish still exist? That was free and very good.

Get your hands on a book called "Mixing with your Mind". He has the best description I've seen of the standard exercise in how to use a compressor (limit it to four parameters, set all but one to vanilla etc.). Seriously, he makes it very easy. With that you'll be able to use any compressor to get what you want.

There are lots of free plugins out there. The blockfish one is pretty good for vocals. However, if you want to buy a plugin, I would recommend the CT 5 plugin by Massey.it sounds great and I think it's only $50.it's also very easy to use.
*correction, the plugin is about $80 but it's still a pretty good price.

What DAW, what Mac or Win, what compressors do you have already?
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

The Massey is really great but it's RTAS/ AAX only, no VST

The ct 5 is now available in vst format along with a couple others. Not all are of them are available in vst format though.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, sort of forgot about this thread.meatballfulton wrote:What DAW, what Mac or Win, what compressors do you have already?
Win 7 64bit, Reaper. I have REAPER stock comps, JS comp, and some variety of sound freebies.

I'm also a reaper user. The stock compressor is quite nice. I use it quite a bit. And also ct 5 if you've got the money for it. It sounds good on about everything.

Fully functional free demo. Just doesn't save your settings after you close session.

Re: VST Compressors for Vox on a Budget
It also sums to mono which is a bit annoying but still useful for applications such as vocal compression.
