Mixer recommendations for computerless synth studio?

Post by clegg » Wed Jan 14, 2015 5:29 pm

I'm ready to purchase a mixer for my synths. Unfortunately I don't know anything about mixers and I'm not sure what I'll be needing/what I shouldn't be paying more for.

Basically I need a mixer for my synths, minimum 12 channels. I would like a basic EQ and an effects (input?)

I don't need computer connectivity as this will all be run through an MPC 2000, however the addition of computer connectivity would be beneficial only so that I can record tracks from the mixer to a simple daw like Reaper.

Knowing nothing about mixers, is there anything you would recommend I go with? I had my eye on the Mackie VLZ mixers. There's also a mackie onyx 1620 selling locally for 300$, but I think there might be lots of features on there that I'll mever find a use for.

Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated!
