Apple's new Lightning to USB3 adapter adds AC power option

Post by meatballfulton » Mon Mar 28, 2016 2:40 pm

For those of you using iPads and iPhones for music, some big news.

This new adapter ($39 in the US) not only has a USB connector but a Lightning connector as well, so you can power both your iOS device and the USB3 port using any USB charger connected with the Lightning to USB cable you probably already own.

Finally you can use AC power and connect to other devices. No more hoping your battery will make it through the session.

USB3 is only supported for 12.7" iPad Pro, the new 9.7" Pro (why not?) and all other iOS devices are limited to USB2. As the video shows, while the adapter is supposed to be iPad only it seems to work with iPhones too.

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
