Ensoniq Fizmo vs. Waldorf Microwave XT ?

Post by jpeg27 » Mon Mar 16, 2009 3:52 pm

Currently owning a lovely orange beast called XT, I found a Fizmo in excellent condition, with fixed power supply; and at a 'fair' price (490 euros). I hesitate a lot to sell my XT and replace it by the Fizmo, which is on my G.A.S. list for a long time...
What's your opinion ? Keeping the XT, selling it for the Fizmo or keeping them both ???

Thanx :D

NO!

As somebody who has owned both, keep the XT!

While I did like the more oscillators I got with the Fizmo and the esoteric FX, it is f**k crippled with god awful interface. The XT is a dream to use and edit.

Trust me, you will regret flogging the XT.

to add to this, the software editor for the fizmo is bloody awful as well

the sounds I get out of my Fizmo are ridiculous, but I blindly twist and push and curse while I program it

The Fizmo is in pretty high demand these days, if possible I would buy it before selling the XT. You can always resell it.

No idea? There are the parameters that can only be accessed with the right Sysex (or NRPN), but if you read the manual, the Fiz is pretty straight forward in knowing what everything does.

Here's some Fiz stuff to check out:

The Fiz can't replace the XT, but if it's worth it right now for you to do this, I'm always in favor of trying a different synth (unless it sucks to begin with, which the Fiz doesn't). If the XT suits you that much then you buy it again.
