The EA1 gives you 2 monophonic synth parts but can't really do drums so if you need drums and synth sounds the MC303 is probably the way to go. The Electribes are much easier to use though. The Electribe EM1 can do drums and has 2 synth parts like the EA1 but it's a bit more expensive, usually around $175-$200.

MC-303 sounds ok, the interface was like pulling teeth. if you look at one make sure the function button works well, they wear out because you have to hold it down while pressing other buttons to do 90% of the editing functions.... (many of which require holding "function" and "shift"

electribe em-1 would be a great start! check out some of ghostradioshow's EM-1 videos on youtube.

The EM-1 has the drum machine of the ER-1 plus the VA of the EA-1- which is in itself a more limited version of the one from the MicroKorg. The EM-1 would do well, but so would a MicroKorg hooked to an ER-1.

Ghostradioshow is a beast on the EM-1. Have you thought about getting an EMX?

huh, well, i always thought the synth parts on the EM where VA... it just went further down on my list...

The Best Buy near me has EMX-1s on "clearance" for $350

its close enough - its like having a digital synth with no oscillator controls, but instead a whole bunch of preset oscillator settings - as well as basic waveforms, also things like piano etc.
