Korg DW-8000 Vs. Roland V-Synth

Post by DBCA » Mon Apr 12, 2010 5:26 pm

I can get a DW-8000 for $250 or a V-Synth for $750... but not both :\

What do you think?

(Looking to play experimental music a la Animal Collective as well as house)

I have a dw8000 and I say v synth. But what is it you want to use this synth for? A dw8000 does have many good things about it and its half the price.I would consider the v synth it you need a synth with many more possibilites

I just told the V-Synth guy that I'd take it.

The possibilities do seem really extensive and inspiring, plus it comes with the D-50 emulator if I want vintage analog tones. I'm also very excited about the sampling/sample manipulation capabilities.

Should be fun times when I pick it up Friday :D

You won't be able to get any vintage analog tones out of a D-50 emulator. It has a late 80's digital synth sound, think Jean Michel Jarre circa REVOLUTIONS or Enya circa WATERMARK. It can make great sounds but definitely not 'vintage analog'. The standard V-Synth engine will be able to get closer to analog sounds than the D-50 emulator.

Yeah the V-Synth was a wise choice, I can't believe they still go so cheaply! Those things are going to be classics in a few years and people will be paying double what they go for now.

My friend, I bought a DW8000 when they were first released, and have since purchased the V-synth Gt. These two synths are not even in the same category; although the Dw8000 is not slouch, the power in the architecture of the Vsynth set it apart in almost all categories. Bite the bullet and buy the Roland; you will not be disappointed. Be blessed; PG

My friend, if you were paying attention you'd see that the OP bought the V-Synth five months ago.

...and judging by the fact he hasn't been back, I'd say he likes it! :D
