I would give my vote for the Blofeld. It can create some very interesting sounds. As was stated in an earlier post though, make sure you like the way it sounds. Waldorf has a unique sound that either makes you fall in love with it or hate it. I happen to really like it myself. I sold off my my Lead 2 a few months ago, and I thought about buying a Blofeld. I would much rather have the Blofeld in my setup than the Nord. I also think that the Blofeld would be good for your ambient music. I have heard it used for this style by a few people, and it can be very good at it.

I'm not sure if you've left yet, but I own both the blofeld and the 2x in addition to 9 other synths. Also, my wife is from Mexico City, so I know how electronics are way more expensive there compared to here in the US. I actually met her the night before the last time I played there. :)

I love both synths, and have never played a live show without my nord except on one rare occasion when the fuse was blown on it at a show in Germany. It's really great for tweaking, etc. I've coax some really strange, abrasive sounds out of mine. It's great for power noise, industrial or hard electro.

Judging by your musical tastes, I would think that a blofeld would suit you as an all around synth better than a nord. It's more of a swiss army knife synth, imho. I took advantage of the firmware scare that the blofeld had early on, and picked one up open box for less than $500. I upgraded the firmware and have never had a problem with it. I was worried about the lack of knobs, but the way it is laid out, it really is enough. Oh, and the presets suck on it. Most of the patches are way too quiet. I know a few people who didn't like it at first, because of the presets....which is, of course, a stupid way of judging a synth.

If i had to describe both with just one word, it'd be as follows:

nord: dirty
blofeld: cold (in a good way...like a crisp, sunny winter day. )

Hope that helps.

Nord is wayyyy overrated. I say definitely go with the Blofeld.

the NL2X has a fuller warmer sound thats easy to work with and the UI is simple but immdiate

the Blofeld is better on paper but the UI isn't much fun imho and if you want somthing deep to program then the Nord Modulars are king in this department. the Waldorf sound it certainly up there wih the best but you have to work with it to get the best out of it and whilst it isn't as smooth as the nords than is better for harsh digital stuff

imho the Nords have the better sound all round(fuller waveforms, smooth filter with excellent bass and 96khz D/A) but you can do more with a Blofeld if you work at it

Blofeld = Audi R8
NL2x = Ferrari 599

Yeah but the nord modulars dont have wavetables.

Also neither one has a better sound, that is entirely subjective
No one cares, no one sympathizes,
so you just stay home and play synthesizers.

I've owned both.
