I'm in the market for a cheap, portable analog synth specifically for bass sounds... I like how these two fit into the fq registry, and their lo-fi-ish sound.... so I was wondering how you good people thought they would stack up against each other in an ALL-OUT circuit/sound grudge match....
cheers

Re: C/G Bolsa Bass vs. Yamaha CS01
Neither one of those is a "analog synth".
The CS-01 uses DCO's mixed with analog filters.
The Bolsa Bass is purely a DSP derived synth.. IE, digital.. all digital from what I read on it.
The CS-01 is not cheap.. you can expect to pay about $350+ for one in good shape... and it doesnt even have MIDI control.. the Bolsa does have midi control.. it can respond to notes and get the sequencer started/stopped... oh yea, it has a little sequencer.
As for one sounding better than the other, I'd imagine the CS-01 will have more varied sounds than the Bolsa.
Personally.. I think you could get something alot better for $250-$350.. similar sounds with alot more flexibility in choice of sounds and midi control.
Ever give the Shruthi a look over?

I completely spaced Mutable gear!!! Thank you so much... a kit would be an awesome project, and definitely fits into the sound/price range/portability that I am looking for

From their FAQ-
The Shruthi is not difficult to assemble. The assembly instructions are very detailed, part values are printed on the PCB, and there are no surface mount parts. However there are more than 200 parts to solder, increasing the risks of doing something wrong if you are not 100% sure of your soldering skills. While there is an increasing group of people having successfully built the Shruthi without prior experience, there are also a few occurrences of people having damaged their kit beyond repair.
Our advice? If you never have soldered anything in your life, go grab a small kit at your local electronic store, assemble it, and come back to the Shruthi afterwards.
