Is the microbrute kind of a new SH-101?

Why? Because of the sequencer?

Because of the sound, certainly not. And rightly so.

Every new affordable mono-synth is the new sh-101. Just like every keyless bass box is the next 303. And every time a new one comes out people rave about how the new thing is going to make the old thing valueless and obsolete. :banghead:

Remember when the tempest was supposed to wield a mighty blow against the 808?

If anything, isn't the microbrute kind of a new minibrute?

Similarities: sequencer, single envelope, oscillator waveform mix, VCF keytrack, PWM, glide
Both are dead simple to use. But yeah, what ninja said.

Before the prices got crazy, the 101 was a very good candidate for modifications. I did over half a dozen. I still think the ╬╝brute is more versatile. Only features I think the 101 has over it is tied notes in its sequencer, an arpeggiator, sample+hold and noise options. I happen to enjoy both of them. Still need to try sequencing them together; bound to be loads of fun.

No. I never saw it compared to the 808, most of the talk was that it would be an 'MPC-killer'. Guess that was pretty far off the mark though.

Mostly because people thought it was going to be the digital drum machine that Linn is presumably still developing....

i wanted that 1st iteration of BoomChick when it was announced. I guess Dave and Roger had other plans :?
i'm sure tempest has it's merits, although it is hard for me to shake the sense that they strayed from the original inspiration of the BC too far

*anyway*

this is effectively a rehash of minibrute threads. maybe someone will post a video of microbrute cymatics or something :)

Why? You obviously have no idea what the minibrute is

Um, yes I do. I still think it's very similar. I think the 101 looks better anyways to me is why. Just was wondering what others thought. A lot of cocky people here of late..lol. I will keep away.

because I think it looks bad-a*s is why.

They do look similar and are both 1 Osc monos, but they sound quite different and the mb has a lot of stuff the 101 is missing, like the multimode filter, feedback and second envelope. The filters sound quite different too.

If you're after something that works and sounds more like the 101 then the intellijel Atlantis is much more like it.

Edit: just realised the micro doesn't have the second envelope.

The SH-101 can be a keytar. Therefore, it wins.

Probably the result of a lot of pointless questions being posted.

See the Crickets post in Off Topic for more details.

This response is what gets peoples' goat here, I think. There's a general consensus here that a synth could look like a pile of dogshit, but if it sounds like heaven to you, then that's the one you spend your rainy day fund on. Point is, play both and decide and if you ultimately change your mind and want to make friends here, dive into the search and learn all you can before posting. I'll do my best to try and not be so cocky if someone posts a topic of my interest.
