Bought a Yamaha RX-11 off of Ebay, got a good price and its a great unit. Only problem is, after reading through different forums and googling for weeks, I'm trying to find out is at actually a 8bit or a 12bit drum machine. Some are saying 8bit other people are saying 12bit. Somebody end the debate, please, glad to meet everyone here. :D

My guess would be 8-bit or some variant of that.

The top of the line RX5 came out a few years later and had much better features, and tech had marched on significantly - and that was only 12-bit.

The wave ROM is 8-bit, but the converters are 13 bit (I think). So likely both answers are correct.

Small point- it's bit depth, or the number of bits used to encode the amplitude. Bit rate is to do with streaming the information. It's a combination of the sample rate, bit depth and number of channels.
