Moog Sub Phatty / Novation Ultranova

Post by A_Paranoid_Android » Thu Nov 17, 2016 2:37 am

Not going to be used for much other than playing around, and maybe some recording here and there. Idk which one to get :? so far I'm veering towards the moog. Recommendations/experiences?

Tell us more about the kind of music you want to make.

The Moog can only play one note at a time -- monophonic.

The Novation can play chords -- polyphonic.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

What do you mean by 'playing around'?

The novation is a very flexible digital polysynth which can be used to control a DAW easily, it can function as an audio interface which will let you record into a computer, you can plug a mic into it, it has a vocoder, it has a lot of really nice sounding wavetable oscillators as well as some of the best analogue modelling ones out there.

The moog is a small analogue monosynth, designed to be particularly good at bass sounds, but it does leads nicely as well.

They're both really different so which one is best for you is going to be completely down to what you want to do with it.
