USB-MIDI cable/interface help

Postby thefonz003 » Mon Jun 12, 2017 6:48 pm

Looking for recommendations for USB-MIDI cable or interface. I currently have an el cheapo that cost me less than five dollars and it won't send sysex data. I need something suitable for my MPK225...something class-compliant that can run with both El Capitan and Windows 10, if such a product exists. If not I may be looking at getting two...

PS - Yes, I know I can google this info and I have spent a good deal of time doing so. I'm just getting confused about compatibility issues is all. I want one that's better and more reliable than the el cheapo I currently have.

Why don't you connect the MPK225 to the computer with USB?

Done, and thanks, but I thought I had to connect it via MIDI to actually play virtual instruments with it.

Nope, you only need physical MIDI for your hardware instruments. The USB connection from the MPK to the computer is carrying MIDI data in and out, so you can play your hardware instruments from the MPK, your virtual instruments from the MPK and the computer can play your hardware instruments via the MPK.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Wow, that's cool! Yeah, I'm still figuring out both the MPK and Ableton Live Lite (just installed it today). The Akai seems like a nifty little 'board for something that doesn't make any sound of its own. I may still need MIDI for the MiniNova though - there are lots of free patch banks out there that I'd like to try!

MiniNova has its own USB/MIDI port.

Also, when the MPK is connected by USB it acts like a MIDI interface.

Maybe connect the MPK225 to computer is useless.Because the windows 8 an d 10 is incompatible.
