Vintage String Synth

Post by martel80 » Thu Oct 11, 2018 11:52 pm

I have an offer to buy a old String Synth. More specificly a Univox Stringman.

The thing is, I'm really into the Crumar Performer for his wobly effect on strings.

Can I get a similar to very close result to this video with an Univox Stringman ?

Thank you

The Univox Stringman has a modulation section with "vibrato" capabilities which would probably result in the same type of sound get out of a Performer's frequency modulation. I personally own a Crumar Performer and the string section doesn't have a filter, which means no filter modulation via LFO, just a heads up. It has a very phase shifted sound to it similar to the ARP Quadra's built in phase shifter and other vintage stringers. I'd say that the Crumar is probably more expressive but the Univox seems like it has potential I haven't heard. Either or seems like a good buy. Good luck! :D
