Some Yamaha Synth Questions

Post by ItalianStallion81 » Sat Jul 19, 2008 10:02 am

What current Yamaha synths can duplicate the sounds of such older Yamaha synths (cf. DX7, GX1, CS80 and GS1) and pianos (CP70/80)?

Should I buy the Motif XS7 to cover the GX1/CS80/GS1/DX7 territory and the CP300 for the CP70/80 territory?

Hmm, to duplicate the dx7, you'd need the plg150-dx plug-in, or the an200. You can probably get both at a good price secondhand. Well, the plg would obviously require a plug-in compatible synt, such as the Motif/Motif ES, cs6x or similar.

But still, the Motif XS can probably get you close to many of the sounds you're after. I have minimal experience with the synth, though.

pity that the XS is no longer supporting the PLG boards.

Would the current Yamaha Motif ES series synths do a good job of covering the GX/CS/GS/DX territory? I know the ES series had superseded the XS series IIRC.
