Anyone used an AS HH88? Or other hi-hat modules?

Post by Sir Ruff » Wed Oct 01, 2008 3:43 am

I realize more and more I wish I just had a stand-alone analog hi-hat rack or unit-like just a single module from the DRM (which I have used).

I know AS makes the HH88 (tho I can't tell how readily available it is from the AH website). Has anyone used one and can comment on its sound? I definitely prefer a thinner, more metallic 808/dr110 sound to a noisier sound if that makes a any difference...

Are there any other similar modules out there?

mfb got modules from their drum machine mfb-501 and mfb-503. ah got them, i think. if not in montreal there's moogaudio that carries just about anything from them, even if it's not on the website. you just have to write to them.

aaah... didn't realize MFB had their module too... hmmm. I imagine it's a softer noisier sound compared to the AS module. would be interesting to compare, but I can't find any sound samples.

and almost complete of there lines of products.

so far i only have the kraftzwerg from mfb, so i can't for everything. but with this little device i'm going a long way! i'm currently sampling it so i can get a complete drum kit out of it. because i'm tired of the usual drum machine.

Thanks for pointing that out! I guess I missed it. The MFB model definitely sounds good, and has a good price. But it is still a little noisier than I would like... Much more of a vintage sound. I am actually considering an MFB-502 (which seems backwards logic I know), and maybe ditching my Vermona, and getting the HH88...

it's never backward logic when it comes to what you prefer. ;-)

Did you take notice of Solvent's post at AH in response to the HH88?
