I have an interesting trade coming up...hopefully!

Post by iProg » Tue Apr 14, 2009 7:51 am

The last month I've been listening a lot to 80's stuff with great P5 players. I realized then that the Prophet '08, which I am very content with, doesn't really liveup to that sweet vintage sound one wants. I'm much for nostalgia.

So I put out an ad in hope to trade the P08 for a P5, Jp-8, OB-X/Xa/8 with cash in between, of course.

Nothing happens for two weeks.

Then I get a mail from a guy who says he has a great condition P5 rev.3 that he is sending in for service because of some sticky keys and says he is willing to do the trade with $250 in cash in between..

How does this sound to your ears? Is the rev. 3 reliable?

Well the average price of a P5 is about $1000 more than a P8 so what do you really need help with? Sounds like a no brainer to me.

I will pitch in that the average rev 3 is stable enough that if you take care of it and give it a good service, it wont really give you any problems. They are easier to own than most people make out. Mine doesn't even go out of tune after hours of playing. One thing I can say for the Prophet is that it's a subtle beast, but a musicians instrument through and through. I hope it works out for you.

and in the future it will probably be way easier to get another P08 than a P5.

What about the old saying - if it sounds too good to be true... Just saying.

Caution should be exercised of course, but I basically traded a DW-6000 for my P-5. The guy just needed something that was a little better for gigging with and the DW-6000 was it. Sounds like a similar situation.

Thank you guys!

The trade took place yesterday. There was really no question about it in the end.
The Prophet-5 is in good service hands right now and I'm picking it up on the next friday. The guy was really nice, he was a big fan of synth pop and had been selling off some of his stuff recently for very low prices because he needed space, cash and inspiration. He got rid of his Moog Voyager signature for 22k SEK which is very low...

Proud owner of a Prophet-5! :D
