I see those Oberheim modules popping up on eBay a couple of times each month. But since I always only read reviews that state they are not reliable, I decided never to fork over $100 for one. Why such a bad reputation? If I could try the arpeggiator one before buying, that would help a lot...
Available for sale:
-Chamber of Sounds Jupiter III (mk1) & Jupiter T (mk1)
-The Complete DX7- Howard Massey (with original enclosed sounds on soft disks)

Actually, there have only been 3 Cyclones go across eBay in the last 4+ months. Across the various forums I've read numerous glowing reviews and the majority were favorable for reliability. Over a few decades of use mine was 100% reliable for 2 prior owners and has been great for me. There really isn't anything else like it. I vetted my unit pretty well before I bought it so YMMV.

Most of the things I read can be summed up here:
http://archive.cassiel.com/space/Gearhe ... im+Cyclone
I have read a lot more concerning their unreliability (also getting worse with the years) than their great power. But I would really like to get to try one anyway! Good thing that some don't have issues with those modules.

Keep me honest, but pretty sure that series of Oberheim modules are all essentially physically the same, it's just the chips that are different. Swore someone online was selling replacement EPROMS at one point. Got me an Oberheim Drummer here I still haven't tried since I bought it though. :?

Hey--someone buy this, restore it and write a review on VSE. Seems like a piece of synthy history that shouldn't go unnoticed.

It looks like this was sitting in a music store storage unnoticed for years.

Very low serial number for a Jupiter 8, but most of all, it seems that the fact they don't sell at $8K is getting on the street... ;)

Why couldn't this have popped up back when I was searching for my vintage dream machine? I would have bought it and been done.

Remember that CS40M a month ago that the seller raised the price from $500 to $800 in a jiffy? Well it's still for sale... I guess she didn't get what she wanted in the end, and now it's sitting still!
