Yes, I've heard the TX816's have a "fuller" sound, but I cannot confirm that.

I haven't seen a complete 816 for sale for a few years, but I do remember them being cheaper. I wasn't sure if they were going up or what. The bigger problem for me is what to do with such a massive sounding unit.

If I wanted to use FM live, I'd probably go with a full 816. The problem with recording one is that you have to lower the input gain so much that you defeat most of the qualities of the synth. It's a bit like recording a symphony where you do everything you can to prevent clipping and breakup. You end up setting your input signal so low that you loose most of the dynamics.

even $700 is too much. Most go for under $500 - I could barely unload mine for $400.

They also weigh a ton and you'll need 8! free xlr inputs handy if you want to hear anything.

i stuck mine on ebay about 8 months ago. Bidding went up to around £800 for a full blown 816 version

Would have loved to have gotten that Boehm. Synth is decent enough but that keyboard would have been a great controller for all my banana modular stuff.
