I have a TX802, and it's pretty full sounding, but I've heard that you can get super lush with a full 816. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare grand to find out.
$1K is about twice I usually what I see them sell for. There's one in Dallas for $700 that I can broker for you if that interests you if the seller is unwilling to ship:

Yes, I've heard the TX816's have a "fuller" sound, but I cannot confirm that.
I haven't seen a complete 816 for sale for a few years, but I do remember them being cheaper. I wasn't sure if they were going up or what. The bigger problem for me is what to do with such a massive sounding unit.

If I wanted to use FM live, I'd probably go with a full 816. The problem with recording one is that you have to lower the input gain so much that you defeat most of the qualities of the synth. It's a bit like recording a symphony where you do everything you can to prevent clipping and breakup. You end up setting your input signal so low that you loose most of the dynamics.

even $700 is too much. Most go for under $500 - I could barely unload mine for $400.

They also weigh a ton and you'll need 8! free xlr inputs handy if you want to hear anything.

i stuck mine on ebay about 8 months ago. Bidding went up to around £800 for a full blown 816 version

...because that's how everyone listens to their studio monitors... on "med's".

I had to read that ad just because I wanted to know what meds were the best to be taking whilst auditioning Alesis monitors...

Was anybody here lucky enough to get any of these last night? All from the same guy. I don't even know why I check completed listings anymore. It just makes me sad. Oh well, good to know there's still deals out there.

Would have loved to have gotten that Boehm. Synth is decent enough but that keyboard would have been a great controller for all my banana modular stuff.

Has *ANYONE* owned/played this beast? I would be interested to know how interesting this thing really is. Conceptually it looks super-sweet.
