Siel DK700

Post by rharris07 » Tue Nov 24, 2009 3:54 pm

Hello all -

I have the chance to buy a Siel DK700, roughly for around 200 bucks. It is from a seller near me who doesn't know music equipment, just picked it up at an auction. he is selling it for nearly 400, but i asked if i drove to him if he would drop it - anyways, what i'm wondering is...is this worth it?

Is there anyone that owns one of these or has owned one? are the pretty good? sturdy? reliable? i can't find much of any info on these units, and unfortunately i cannot find ANY sound samples. I'm just now getting into buying old synths, and i don't want to get hosed on this if its not worth it.

any responses with info and/or experiences would be great!

Thanks so much,

Ryan

Siel product aren’t known for their reliability but since it is local you can check it out first. $200 seems like a good price and it would probably sell for more on ebay.

thats what i'm afraid of...its reliability. i'm not one to buy it just so i can turn it around to make money on it, i would definitely buy it for unique sounds and capabilities for my own work. are they rather unique in how they sound and/or work at least? the location is about 2 hours away from me, so i really want to make sure its something really worth the money plus the drive to get it...

siel don't sound bad, i'm not sure about this one, but siel synth have more bite, rawness , than other poly dco synths from the same area. if the synth works ok, 200 is a nice price, because this model is more rare.
still love to find another siel, like this model myself, my first synth was a siel, so i kind of like this underdog italian brand.

From specs (and chipset) it looks somewhat like knobless version of DK-600, with MIDI masterkeyboard functions thrown in.

http://home-1.worldonline.nl/~smeyer/siel/dk700.htm - there are some pics and user manual.

If it has DK-600/Opera 6 engine inside - it sounds good :-)

EDIT: I've just flipped through user manual - the synth is almost identical to DK-600, but there is nice addition - each LFO has its own ADSR envelope :-)

thank you guys so much for the info & input. i really and truly appreciate it. i'm still kicking around whether or not to actually buy it - if i can get it at 200 i know thats a good price, but as far as old synths go - i'm searching for a juno 60 and a moog source...so i'm not sure if i should wait on either one of those to try this out, or keep the money and just put it towards one of those instead....tough decision!

i think a big negative on this thing though ultimately is that i doubt anyone near me could fix this thing if something goes wrong on it, so i could spend 200 and it go out and end up spending double or triple to ship it off to be repaired... :?
