What good 61 keys synth under 5/6 kg ?

Post by icez » Thu Nov 26, 2009 5:00 am

Hello !
I own a large number of synths but I am having troubles finding a good synth for live performances.
I currently use a r3 which I use to play bass. Ive been recording with a Juno 106, Jx-3p and a Jupiter 6.
The problem with those is their weight, they are over 10 kilos and not easy to carry around to practice etc...
I used to use a Poly 800 (korg) but it only had 49 keys, was long to program and broke a few times.
I am preferably looking for an old analog synth but since modern synths are lighter, I am also considering them.

The Juno Di is around 5kg, but there isn't really anything out there that's lighter and 61 keys. Old synths are heavy cause they had a lot of stuff inside them to make the sound. Newer digital ones can be much lighter, so you can either pick between old, analogue and heavy or new, digital and light.

If you're after something more synth sounding rather than a ROMpler the X-Station is pretty light.

Novation X-station 61 and Yamaha AN1X are both around 7.5kg.

Also worth noting the Yamaha CS1X and CS2X at just 5.7kg.

Ok, I finaly decided to get a sampler or rompler (I don't use that many instruments during while playing live so it won't matter if I have a limited memory).
Is there anything in this category that is 61 keys, 5/6kg max and Japanese made ?
I wish the site had some kind of search feature for the synths, it would make those kind of researches way easier.
Thanx for you help !
