Good Price for a Yamaha CS-60?

Post by swisstony123 » Sun Nov 29, 2009 2:49 pm

What price do people think is resonable for a CS-60 these days... considering what a cs-80 is going for. I'm hoping it would fit nicely into to my setup alongside the Prophet 5 and Xpander. I'm aware that only a few years back you could pick one of these up for £750 ($1,000) but have seen a few going on other sites for around the £2,000 mark... are they worth it? I'm after and hoping that it will offer that unique CS sound, it seems like it will and I can't seem to hear this "thiness" that people talk of even with its one VCO per voice.

I bought mine for 1500$ shipped and I thought I was quite lucky. I'd say a Cs-60 in good condition, with all accessories is worth around 3000$ usd or more these days.

I haven't played an 80 yet, but I think the 60 can produce similar sounds easily. Sure it has 1 osc, but I don't think it sounds thin at all!

over 3 grand for 'good condition', c'mon.

obviously you're saying that to drive up your eventual resale price, dude.

Yes, they will be about 30% more in Europe vs. US price, but of the ones I've seen over the years none have ever sold for over 2200USD - the vast majority sell for between 1000-1400USD.
The only exception being from Tonetweakers and they did a FULL restoration with new parts inside and out.

Shoot, stay off Ebay and you can find them in good condition for as little as $800; my friend did less than 2 years ago via Craigslist.

don't try to f**k up the market for everyone else just so you can flip a synth, please.

Hmmm 2 years is a loooong time in the world of synthesizer sales, I paid £170 for my sh-09 from ebay and in the space of 9 months+ I've seen them go regularly for 350-400 and from what I've seen in private sales here in the UK (off ebay) two CS-60's went for around the £2000 - £2500 mark. I hate gouging as much as the next person but analogue synth prices have rison astronomically in the last 3-5 years and I dont see them going down again like they once did. So Box seems closer to me than you think.... would like to here others opinions and recent price experiences
