Midi interface/Patchbay

Post by Villi » Sun Dec 20, 2009 10:49 pm

I want a midi interface with standalone patchbay functionality (mainly merging) as well. I don't really need a full 8 i/o device, something like 4-5 would suffice. However, it needs to have XP x64 drivers, and windows 7 drivers would be a nice bonus as well. What are my options? Motu micro express? Does the the motu micro lite have any patchbay functions? How are the motu windows drivers? Any other options? My budget is... as cheap as possible.

I have a M-Audio 8x8. It works as standalone merger / splitter (there is a software matrix that lets you assign the in- to the outs). it works fairly well, but i have a mac

I only hear good things about the motu midi interfaces. they seem to have a rock solid timing, which i cannot claim about the midisport (though im not sure whether it's his fault or ableton live's). but i also don't know about windows reliability.

the midisport can usually be had cheaper (2nd hand) than the motu stuff. but, only the 8x8 is usable standalone, afaik.

Too bad M-audio has no intention of supporting XP x64 and seems to have problems getting out drivers for vista/7 64-bit too.
