Re: What synthesizer?
So many recommendations! Arghhh! But again, many thanks. I think my mind is made up though to go the sotfsynth route for starters. I'll check out the X-Station in comparison to the XioSynth. Will either (or both) take the Reason software package? Do i even need it? And lastly typically how much are the VSTi's? Cheers again for all your help.

Re: What synthesizer?

There are tons of freebies out there, which doesn't help! Then there's all the effects too (delays, reverb, etc etc etc)
Commercial softsynths can cost anything from a few $ up to a couple of hundred. Definitely worth checking Computer Music magazine (http://www.computermusic.co.uk)
Some nice synths can be downloaded from http://elektrostudio.ovh.org/index2.php
Another good freebie is synth1, try this link: http://sonictransfer.com/synth1-free-vs ... izer.shtml
Finally check out http://www.vstcafe.comfor lots of reviews/articles and demos.
Propellerhead Reason is a standalone software studio that doesn't support VST plugins. It doesn't do external recording, but they have a product called Record which integrates with Reason which does this.
If you're on a tight budget I suggest sticking with Reaper for now. Most DAW software vendors do demo versions anyway so you can try out different packages. (Please don't be tempted to use rip-off pirated software though).
