Korg MS-10 for playing melodies & funky bass?

Hello friends,

Mmm... I'm thinking of trying to catch a Korg MS-10...
It seems that someone is selling one in my area.

I watched some YouTubes videos and it seems that all of them shows more effects stuff than leads and basses...

Right now, my main gear is Roland Fantom G7, DSI Mopho & my BELOVED tiny yet wonderful monophonic YAMAHA CS-01.

Mmm... what do you think of the MS-10?

I personally think it makes some great basses and leads - just don't expect any two oscillator sounds/detuning. The filter is lovely and snarly when you crank the resonance - it has some dirt and hefty sound. The MS10 also has lovely PWM which the 20 lacks - I use mine for thick PWM basses exclusively.

The best basses are single oscillator. Leads are a bit better with some pitch diversity, but you can definitely get a decent lead sound out of an MS-10. In general, MS-10s are a blast. Buy it! They are not very complex, but they are very fun.

You could try saving up for an MS-20, depending on your budget.

It's one of my faves but the envelope generator does not scream "funky bass".

In general (with some very talented exceptions) I think this is more a result of people with a computer, synth, and video camera, but no playing skills on youtube. And there's a lot of them.

The MS-10 can make wonderfull leads and bass. It's very easy to make quite expressive leads sounds, from soft to ultra agressiv. And for basses, take the PWM and add a compressor and you have a huge bass sound !

But for funky bass, the envelopes are not so snappy like on a Roland SH or a Moog (for example...). And you also miss a second envelope for the filter, so it's quite limited. Prefer a Moog (Rogue, Prodigy, or also Little Phatty) for really funky basses.
It is much easier to be a good equipment purchaser than to be a great musician.
