Juno 106?
Hey. I am very serious about buying a Juno-106 off ebay. But i have a few concerns. I have heard of the "dead chip" problem. How common is this problem, can u fix it (if so how much) and how likely would it be to get this problem in a used synth? Also I am extremely parnoid that the price is going to sky rocket in the next year or so. Out of interest how much do they go for in the US? I live in australia, where price varies between 800-900 usd.
Re: Juno 106?
Chips go for about $50 per each. There was some guy who was making new ones I think.

Prices are $500-900
Chips can be repaired.
Do a search for Juno 106 acetone.

The Synth Spa on ebay is an excellent way to have the chips serviced. I think he charges $145 for a total reconditioning of chips, which IMHO is a great price and guaranteed to work without having to deal with acetone and the possibility of messing your chips up. I have two Juno 106. On one the 80017a on voice #5 was bad but I have another Juno 106 where none of the chips are faulty and still have the plastic resin coating on the chips. You can also look here: http://www.analoguerenaissance.com/D80017/ I'd say look at your local craigslist for some deals, or even try to find one in good shape but WITH voice problems... just as long as you consider the $145 to have the chips fixed, you can usually make out with a better deal than buying one with no problems now.
Oh yeah, MAKE SURE the high pass filter slider works. You will not be able to find a replacement ANYWHERE.
106 is great. I write all my songs with it because it can do basslines, leads, pads, everything. Sounds good without having to fuss with it, just write the part and move on

Re: Juno 106?
Just got my board back from Allen @ The Synth Spa on Ebay. He did a lot of Trace repair, Voice Chip repair, and likely other stuff on my Juno 106 Voice Chip board. It took three months but it was ABSOLUTELY worth it. My Juno 106 sounds incredible. Definitely check out the Synth Spa.
I seriously didn't think my board could be repaired, but Allen did it. Amazing.
