looking for a and x0x0x0x0 1 question

Post by nu-tellar » Tue Jun 14, 2011 10:57 pm

i hear a lot of fuzz around this thing, which are authentic or not who make it better quality and so on.
i am about to buy one and i always like to buy new from dealers but, i saw that bigcitymusic have 2 makers for their x0x0x0x is there anybody else you guys can recomend for it. or the ones at bigcitymusic is the same thing everybody got.

anything i need to know before i pull the trigger i just one to get that acid bass line to play it live. and that is able to do solid bass also.

thanks everyone for your suggestion.

Well, it was only every a DIY kit, so there is no authentic version per se, aside from an original Ladyada kit.

Most of the controversy I've heard surrounded the Technology Transplant version (one of the versions Big City Music are selling), although it seemed to have much more to do with the ethics of the company (you can read all about it if you care to google around) than the quality of the box. They appear to just be assembled versions of this kit: http://www.willzyx.com/products/x0xb0x-complete-black , but I don't really know.

I assume buying from Big City Music would give you an added level of protection over buying one off of Ebay. They're essentially vouching for the quality of it (even though it's not a proper professionally manufactured product) by choosing to stock it. But I'd go ahead and e-mail them and find out exactly what their return/replacement policy is, specific to these x0xb0xes.

I believe there are a few VSE members who assemble x0xb0xes. You could wait for them to chime in, or have a search round the forum, and fire off some PM's to see who currently has services available.

I just bought a kit off of E-Bay, should be here any day. I'll be selling it once its built. The b0xes from BCM are unfortunately made by T.T., who have horrible track records for these. A lot of have problems.

There are little tweaks you can do to make it as close to the 303 sound as possible. Which i always do to the units i build.

Well, bigcitymusic has another branch of xoxox that they carry right now I don't know the name of the branch. So I won't get anything made by tenologic transplant.

Hey computer control I don't mind getting it of a vse member if is no long the wait. And they are good at assembling them I just one and xoxox. And I am just asking cause I want to get the better one I can grab and the closest sound to the tb 303.

Oh they also carry the mode machine xoxox for a little of extra money anybody have any experienced with those. That can give me some advice with that.

Thanks everyone

I'm hoping the kit will be here tomorrow. I take about 3 days to build and test a complete kit. With any luck, i can have it available for sale by Monday at the latest. This will be my 5th build, so i'm pretty well versed in building them.

It's x0xb0x. That's ex zero ex bee zero ex, not kiss hug kiss hug kiss hug kiss hug. It's pronounced zocks-box. This thread burns my eyes. ;)

I just bought an xoxbox off of ebay , not really know the whole tech. transplant deal. I've heard both good and bad, but nice to see mode machines is available too. I"m planning on very possibly getting mine, testing and selling it back on the bay and looking at other alternatives.

Why? If it works, no need to resell it.

Yeah if it works i may keep it, but I have been seriously looking at Future Retro stuff too....of course one came up for sale after i'd ordered the xoxbox.

I'm not one of those people who can tell if one transistor is different in a TB303 vs. xoxbox, just want a nice acid-y sound that is close...the future retro stuff is professionally built and has nice built in effects.

i had a revolution v2 and ended up selling it to get a x0xb0x, the fx are nice but i felt the sound wasn't quite what I was after. It sounded good but a bit more metallic sounding than a x0xb0x/303. Plus the sequencer, although nice, isn't quite as easy to bang out acid lines on, you really need to know what you want to program. On the x0xb0x you just bang away on the buttons and it kinda makes the patterns for you :)

Must be the Revolution. I know the 777 and XS have none.

Good to know...yeah I hope I get a solid xoxbox, like i said company has a iffy reputation.....I know that its supposed to be a little closer (acidvoice tests, etc) so i'm definitely not knocking it. The FS Revolution's effects and design make it pretty tempting, although the metallic sound does not sound like what i want either (TB303 = wet and squelchy , bubbly almost at times?)
