Top Three Must-Have Anologs

Post by SquareWave » Wed Aug 03, 2011 12:46 am

So, a query to my fellow long-time VSE peeps.

At long last, in the relatively near future, I will be coming into some money! I have some ideas about filling out my studio, but I was curious about the thoughts of my fellow synth geeks...

If you could choose three analog synths that represent the greatest analogs available, under like $20,000 total, what would they be?

My thoughts are thus:

Prophet T8, Jupiter 8, Memory Moog - I'm thinking the T8 will be running 3-4000, the Jupiter 1.5-2.500, and the Memory Moog 2-3000.

What do you think?

i think this belongs in buyer's guide, not off topic...
also you'd be very lucky to land a jup8 or a memorymoog for that little.

This conundrum should one get three $6,666 synths. Or one $19,500 synth, one monotribe, and one monotron.

Probably the Jupiter-8, ARP 2600, and a CS-80. Er, Andromeda should be in there somewhere. Memorymoog ONLY if it's a LAMM which I think you might be able to swing under $7000-8000 after return-shipping it to Germany. That's five synths. Can it be six synths???? You need some mono synths in there as well.

Screw the Memorymoog! I played one once when they were new, loved it, but $8000? Nope, not to mention all the problems I've heard about them...

:la:

What are T8's going for these days - I shudder to ask... That might be my whole budget right there!

Why polys? You need some modular in your life, and TTA are coming out with a modular poly system if you can wait.

Hmm ...

Minimoog
ARP 2600
Jupiter 8
Oberheim OB-8

Or

Minimoog Voyager
MacBeth M5
Prophet '08
Andromeda

And that is not accounting for modular gear...everyone secretly wants a modular. A nicely done modular, wires all about, elicits the same response in me as, say - Scarlett Johansson running up and doing her best to poke my eyes out with the business end of her mammary units...
