chicago house 707 with 626 worth it.?

Post by princefan3 » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:08 pm

Hi Guys been getting into the early chicago house sound, but have a dilema...

i have a 707 which sounds the bomb when making these tracks..but is it enough

want to know if a 626 would add anything to a track or if it would sound too similar..

i understand that the latin sounds will add a new dimension to a 707...esp the de tune options.

but dont want to repeat what i already have. in the kick, snare and hi hat dept.

what are your thoughts....cheers

You could always get a 727 or the cheaper latin Yamaha RX21L, or RX17 which is a combo of RX21 and RX21L. Of course those RX's don't have the x0x grid like the Roland's do.

The 626 doesn't give you all the latin percussion as found on the 727 though, but the bonus with the 626 is that youu can pitch the drum sounds to your taste.

Think of the 626 as a cross between a 707 and 727. But not with the same sounds, though they sound real similar. It's a nice unit. I just wish it had the 707/727 interface! I used one for a long time.

Get a 727. The sliders and easier programming are worth it IMO. Pitching the samples is fun on the 626, but I have the impression that the other two also sound better somehow... I have all three and the 626 doesn't get that much use these days...

Since you don't specifically mention wanting a Roland box with step input, might I also suggest looking into a sampler ?
bonne chance

had a similar dilemma to OP and my answer was really down to price - 707 and 727 go for a fair bit (even broken...) whereas a 626 is a bit more manageable. I've recently settled for a 626 and it's not bad, but less user friendly than the others.
