Korg MS 20 step sequencer compatibility
Hello there
Iv been reading a lot about the Hz/V that the korg MS 20 uses vs the common oct/V scaling, my goal is to get a step sequencer connected with the Korg ms 20. The korg sq-10 was specifically tailored for this, but I was wondering if there are any other options, or maybe a setup with which I could utilize other analogue sequencers. Korg MS02 INTERFACE is promising, however Im not sure if it does what I think it does which is being able the korg Ms 20 to be compatible with oct/V scaling devices. Im looking for more knowledgable persons opinion like yours.
Thanks!

Future Retro Mobius offers both voltage scalings.

Z is correct. The mobius will work wonders for you. Coincidentally, I have one for sale in the For Sale forum here

Also the old Kenton midi/CV boxes convert between all kinds of CV's, right?

You could also use a sequencer such as the Doepfer Dark Time however, you would need a CV convertor such as a Kenton Pro or the Korg MS02 interface. The dark time is fantastic, I have been playing with it all day

Replicants are like any other machine, they're either a benefit or a hazard. If they're a benefit, its not my problem.

A Kenton Pro Solo Mk II will work & is more readily available (& way cheaper) than an MS-02 (which will do the job also).

Double plus good what Psy_Free said.
A Kenton pro solo mk2 attached to an ms20 is a wonderful thing. And you will find other uses for the Kenton - its like the swiss army knife of my studio. You can always use a few more of them.

You should really consider buying the Mobius that phesago has for sale.
The Mobius is a very flexible sequencer and the fact that is has clock out and DIN Sync out makes it even more so.
Also, you're not likely to find one cheaper than what he's asking for his.
If I didn't already have one, I'd be buying it.

+1 and i have two of 'em. dedicated to my MS-10 & 20 but they'll work with anything and are fantastic sequencers.

Re: Korg MS 20 step sequencer compatibility
Another work around exists right out of the box: the "total" or "VCO Freq" inputs will both approximate a 1V/oct response with the respective attenuator knobs all the way up... That doesn't disconnect the keyboard though, which can be an advantage as well (instant transpose).

Elektron A4 is new alternative especially for price/feature ratio considered. It can also do s-trigger/gate.

But it doesn't do Hz/V, right? That would really be great...haj wrote:Elektron A4 is new alternative especially for price/feature ratio considered. It can also do s-trigger/gate.
BTW, apart from the V/oct trick with the VCO modulation inputs, the MS20 can also convert anything to S-trigger on board with the ESP (only a trigger resulting though, no gate unfortunately).

Re: Korg MS 20 step sequencer compatibility
Really? Awesome! That makes up a little bit for the lack of midi note out I've ranted about (which you clearly didn't like)
