Any Ideas?

Post by Financier » Thu Dec 27, 2012 4:17 am

I am not a keyboard player but love synts since back in the 80s dance music. I mostly play woodwinds.
So I got myself a MiniNova. LOVE the sound and everything. But, the small keys are not the best for me.
Any ideas for a 37-49 full size keyboard with polyphonic and a hardware synth. And similiar to the MiniNOva. New to the Midi stuff.
Looking for $500-$800 range. Or even a more expensice model that may find on ebay.

Thanks

The Mininova is just an Ultranova with mini keys, you should have gone for the Ultranova in the first place.

thanks. I figured that.
Just wasn't sure if the arpeggiator was the same.
I know the Ultranova has an audio interface that is suppose to be nice.
Other than the Vocal effects on the Mini,,does the Mini have anything better than the Ultra?

Thanks

Only someone who has both the Ultra and Mini can answer your question, but it appears the vocal effects are the biggest difference. The Ultra has a superior interface with more real controls for both programming and playing.

Other units to consider in the sub $800 range:

Roland SH-01 Gaia
Korg R3

There are many other options with more than 44 keys and/or are only available used.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

you mention being a wind player, have you considered perhaps getting something like an EWI as an alternative to using keys?

check these out--- http://www.akaipro.com/ewiseries
I'm actually considering the EWI4000S, although I haven't played in years.

Yamaha makes a similar product called the WX5 which has a more tradition sax-based set up
http://usa.yamaha.com/products/music-pr ... llers/wx5/

and then there is also the Eigenharp --- http://www.eigenlabs.com/product/
which is something a bit different, but a thing you may find of interest.

if you have some free time you may enjoy this page--- http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/new-musi ... ments.html
I'm eagerly awaiting Linn's upcoming LinnStrument, but this page is fun and presents a collection of things that others have attempted beyond the keyboard

I own an ultranova and had quite a lengthy play around with a mininova at the local music store today, got to say the ultra feels a thousand times better, the pitch and mod wheels on the mini felt awful imo. I think the ultranova is great and it can be had for a decent price.

Thanks for the replies....
I am going to GC today and trade in for the Ultra. Hopefully I will get a good trade. Mine is only a few weeks old.
Of course being around all those other synths ,,who know.
I want to try the Korg R3 also.

Those electronic woodwinds are wild. The make a sorts electronic bagpie called Hot Pipes. The can change key, etc.
