Damn. Six years ago AX60's were going for like $300.

I paid $280 only two years ago.Alex E wrote:Damn. Six years ago AX60's were going for like $300.
Only 'til very recently they were holding steady at $400.
I bet if he's patient one could be had for under $600.

People are finally discovering how versatile of a synth the AX60 is. Most people only talk about Korg, Moog, Oberheim, Roland and SCI and forget that Akai made a few cool synths. That, and the fact that all vintage analogs keep going up in price.

Pretty much this^^Z wrote:People are finally discovering how versatile of a synth the AX60 is. Most people only talk about Korg, Moog, Oberheim, Roland and SCI and forget that Akai made a few cool synths. That, and the fact that all vintage analogs keep going up in price.
Judged on capabilities and sound, not lineage, it was silly that this thing ever sold for less than $500. I would absolutely put it up against the Junos and Korg Polys in terms of raw analog synthyness... while not as smooth or fat as the aforementioned it has it's own merits that set it apart and give its own place.
I say, grab one.

Another vote here for the Akai AX60
Re: Cheap Synths With A Lot of Knobs/Sliders/Switches
I would also recommend a Roland JP-8000. Much tweaking to do. A lot of sliders, a lot of knobs!
Re: Cheap Synths With A Lot of Knobs/Sliders/Switches
the ax60 is a pretty cool synth. we have one for sale right now. i think its a really good value in an analog polysynth. what i dont like about it is the feel of the faders and the fact that its a full sized keyboard. if it was in a module, we would probably have one in our new studio. cause a million synths are never enough! :p

You mean the embarrassment of thinking I can get a vintage analog synth for $500
Is there such a thing now? Even the Juno 6 is going for $800+ in my area.

No, the embarassment of posting answers to 1.5 years old questions...

If you want a cheap knobby VA synth, you could always look at a Novation X-Station. Certainly not analogue, it has plenty of real time control, and a few flexible features under the hood.

Re: Cheap Synths With A Lot of Knobs/Sliders/Switches
I second the x station. good synth all around, nice effects too, I have the four octave one, and not only is a great sounding synth but you can load up all the sounds from the k station, most of ks4 and ks5 and the xio synth. and at least the 4 and 5 octave ones have a great spot on the upper right for a desktop, it's where I had my mopho until I sold it to buy a tetra, now the tetra sit's up on it all pretty like
