808/909 Handclap Clones

Post by Solderman » Wed Jun 05, 2013 2:12 am

Most of us are aware of the Boss HC-2, which does possess a trigger in, but I'm really wondering about a fully versatile module, such as Eric Archer's Clap Raca. Apparently ol' Eric just isn't selling, so I'm wondering what else is available similar to this.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

Z posted this HC-2 demo for me just to show that it's at least a viable option to use with a 606:

I was also considering getting a DR110, since its handclap is nearly identical to the HC-2, and doing not only the tonal mods found online but also adding the Circuit Bender's Din Sync Kit.

There's the Tip Top CP909 as well, not mega flexible but more than the original. I think the DRM1 mk3 might be able to do some good clap sounds with a heap of flexibility too, but buying one of them just for claps would be overkill.

Not sure how well the sound of the one in the Machinedrum holds up but it has some lovely synthesis parameters to play with.

There is the Tama TS 204. You get a good number of controls for the clap and a second "synth" part.
