Which option is the best for me?

Postby sebazo » Fri Aug 12, 2016 9:32 pm

Hi! How are you? I''d really appreciate your opinion on this:

I want to buy a Synth and I want it to have these characteristics:
1) Portable (Light weighted and not to big): I have a Nord Electro 3 and the synth will be complementary. Not larger than 3 octaves. I need to be able to carry both of them and not getting a hernia.
2) Analog or virtual analog: I'm way more familiar to knobs than buttons.
3) Versatile: I play in a Rock band. My influences are Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Beatles, Muse...
4) Polyphonic: at least four-voice.
5) I need it to store my sounds. I don't want to be starting from scratch every time... I'm not such a patient guy :D

Now, i was looking to these options:

a)Korg Minilogue. Pros: has everything I need. Cons: I don't know if i will like the minikeys. I'm used to full-sized keys.
b) Roland JD-Xi. Pros: Weight, looks, many modifiers. Cons: I think it's more oriented to electronic music. Minikeys?
c) Roland JX-03 Module + Midi keyboard. Opinions?
d) Roland Gaia. Pros: Looks easy to play and use. Versatility. Polyphony. Cons: Heavier and larger than the others.
e) Roland System 1 Ayra. Opinions? Aren't the keys a little weird?

Any other choices???
Thank you very much and sorry for such a long post! :P
Have everyone a nice weekend!
Sebas.

They are on the used market just like most Gaias. Theres the Virus Indigo, Virus Indigo 2, and Virus Ti Polar.

The one i found is the Ti Polar and I think it's too expensive for me.
I'm talking about something that doesn't exceed U$S 700...

That would be the original Virus Indigo, in the used market.

Also, look at the Novation Ultranova.

+1 for the virus. Tha was my first thought. Also, Roland's boutiques check all the boxes, and are way cheaper.
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

Thank you all for your replys!
So we're narrowing the list to these three so far:

1) Novation Ultranova
2) Roland JX-03 + Midi Keyboard
3) Virus Indigo 1.

I love the Indigo, but the thing is that it may not be so easy to find... If you find one for sale let me know! :)
Which is your opinion on each one of the three above?

Thanks a lot!

Another question...

What's the difference between the Ultranova and the Bass Station (besides the size)?

Thanks to everyone who answered! It's been really helpful.

Last question before I decide:
Would it be a good option if I decide to buy a module version of a synth + a MIDI keyboard?
Which module synth would you recommend?
My budget for the module alone would be $500 top.

Thanks!
Sebazo.

Access Virus. (aka Virus A) but the Ultranova would be a better synth. Or a Novation Nova if you want to spend less than that.

:agree: the Indigo or Nova desktop are both really good, but they haven't been coming up on eBay and the like as often as they used to. The Ultranova would easily be the best newer synth in your price range. I've played both that and the Gaia, and I much prefer the Ultranova. it sounds more powerful to me,a don I found it just seemed better quality.
