First synth: korg monologue vs ms20 mini (or others)

Postby srrrd22 » Wed Jan 18, 2017 11:35 am

Hi there

I am looking to purchase my first synth, in the 400 GBP bracket and was undecided between a Korg monologue or a Korg MS20 mini. I make all sorts of techno and minimal and would like a versatile first synth that can range from bass sounds to bleepy effects. By looking around, most demos of the monologue seem to focus on Bass and acidic sounds leaving me to wonder if it actually has a good ability to cover other sorts of sounds. The ms20 seems very versatile but I am a bit put off by the increased price tag and the fact that presets cannot be saved. Has anyone tried the monologue yet and has some idea on how it performs? Also any suggestions on any other brands and synths I might not have looked at are greatly welcome!

If You have a midi keyboard there is Mopho analog
synth module from Dave Smith instruments.
The roland boutique series also modules no kbd.

Vintage synths perhaps.

Yamaha cs1x and cs2x. They should be In the range
They sound great and Can do techno and lots more.

Novation Ultranova. Covers an immense sonic spectrum, so techno & minimal no problem. For the price nothing comes close.

The Monologue is pretty nice, and might be waht you're after. The Ultranova is also really cool, and I agree with Psy that it's amazing for the price. It seems you want an analog synth though, and it doesn't sound analog.

Need more info on what you want it to do.
