Poly Synth - Stranger Things, Juno, Warm 80s

Post by EddieSaia » Thu Feb 16, 2017 9:30 pm

Need an opinion on my first vintage (or vintage sounding) synth!

I have the Korg Monologue at the mo - perfect for producing acid, ebm, techno tracks

BUT - having heard the soundtrack for Stranger Things (members of S U R V I V E) I have a real hankering for a truly warm, vintage 80s sounding synth, to create experimental/retro 80s electronica with modern twists.

I know the Juno range are absolutely fantastic and have been used to create the soundtrack - and I also know there is a boutique version JU 06 - this is the sound id be aiming for. I know the MICROKORG can emulate a lot of these sounds but it looks limited in terms of modulation

Any suggestions? Bear in mind I'd rather not spend above the £300 mark which I know is low!

Thanks!

If you're trying to get an 80s sound, imo, limited modulation is part of the sound. Most of the vintage 80s analogs, especially the Junos, are very limited in modulation. The Ju-06 might be what you're looking for- you're just not going to get a vintage analog for that price anymore.

I can see your point about the limited modulation - definitely something to consider

I'd love a JU06 but even those are deadly hard to get a hold of!

SO - anything similar to a JU06 in terms of sound within the £300 range?

uhm... maybe an Ion, that can do a bunch of different filters. I don't know what UK prices for the Ion are.

Why not try the software version first?
There is the Tal-Uno which is s soft version of the
Juno 60. It is a bit different from the juno-106/06
but I Think it sounds great. Then You Can decide what
to do buy a ju-06 or maybe alpha juno.

Cheers
