Roland Zenology -- FREE

Post by meatballfulton » Mon Jul 06, 2020 3:04 am

Released to little fanfare a few weeks back as part of the new v2.5 Roland Cloud, the Zen-core engine fo the Jupiter X, new Fantom, MC-707, etc. is now available as the Zenology softsynth. There is a free Lite version with only 176 patches plus 808 and 909 drum kits to get you hooked, a 3000+ patch version with the $3/mo Core subscription and in the fall a Pro version with one of the more expensive subscriptions. There are a number of expansion packs available as well.

It's a preset and tweak instrument, with only 5 (why not 8 like everyone else?) tweakable parameters. The emulated Roland/Boss MFX (including the Juno chorus) can be tweaked to your heart's content, though. Many patches will be familiar from classic Roland hardware, others are brand new. The Pro version will be fully editable. The sounds can also be loaded into any of the Zen-Core hardware instruments.

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
