whats your favorite software?
im bored as h**l, hopefully this will result in some interesting responses;
so whats your...
- favorite synth?
- sequencer?
- sampler?
- audio effects?
- mastering plugins?
- filters?
- plugins/audio software that might not fit perfectly into the above categorys?
mine are:
- favorite synth? abl bassline pro, im a sucker for a good mono synth lead line and this thing sounds golden when run thru my nomad factory amp simulater.
- sequencer? ableton live, gets the job done and is fun. the way the clip system works ableton just reminds me of an mpc.
- sampler? reasons NNXT. kontakt is too complex for me, just has more s**t then i will ever use. plus its nice using the matrix sequencer as an arpeggiator with the mod wheel controlling the pattern selection
- audio effects? i dont use too many effects, i love my amp sim plugin though.
- mastering plugins? i just got nomad factory's blue tubes bundle. good plugins.
- filters? all ive got in this department are the filter plug ins that came with ableton
- plugins/audio software that might not fit perfectly into the above categorys?

Re: whats your favorite software?
I use Reaktor for my synths and rhythms... I like simple instruments like the Bi-Machine, two sine synths and effects. I also use Logic's ES-1 and the FM synth. Most of my patches are very simple but effected heavily with filters, bit reduction, delays, and reverbs.
I usually sample with my VSS-30 and chop it in Logic.
Mastering is limited (har har) to Logic's compressors and limiters.
I used to use Pluggo but didn't like the sound after a while. It was hard to use subtly and I'm not into glitchy stuff so much.

- favorite synth? Probably impOSCar. The perrier lead preset makes me jump from my chair everytime I play it...
- sequencer? FL studio, got 3 points out of 10 in Future music testing of "ease of use", but I just can connect my brain perfectly with it. Hard to use the first times, but you can do much more you can imagine (version 5 and up).
- sampler? FL studio's directwave. Because it comes with the bunch and its simple. Compatible with many formats out there.
- audio effects? Kjaerjus audio. The free version are very good. The FL studio reverb is quite nice also, I use it all the time.
- mastering plugins? Kjaerjus audio...
- filters? Kjaerjus audio...
- plugins/audio software that might not fit perfectly into the above categorys? Probably Adobe audition. You can edit audio and do multitracks. Perfect for exporting each FL studio channel to wave files and mixing them seriously in Adobe audition. I also use it for restoring old tapes audio when converting from VHS to DVD.

Sequencer: I guess ABL, but I never use it to drive other soft-synths, I always use it as the best 303 emulation ever that it is.
Sampler: Reason NN-XT
Audio effects/mastering plugins: Waves
Filters: Don't have any
Misc.: ...also none that I can think of...

Re: whats your favorite software?
Not a huge software guy (partly on account of my excruciatingly slow computer), but here goes...
- favorite synth? - Albino
- sequencer? - Logic
- sampler? - EXS24
- audio effects? - Altiverb, KTGranulator, etc.
- mastering plugins? - I get by with ones in Logic/Waveburner
- filters? - Eh. I rarely use dedicated "filter" plugins.

fav synth: right now it's FM7 but I'm also digging Reaon's Maelstrom. It can make so many crazy sounds.
sequencer: I only have one. Reason 2.5
sampler: NN-XT
I don't have any plug-ins. All effects are either from Reason, what's built into Adobe Audition or from my outboard gear.

Fave soft synths right now are G-Medias Minimonsta (amazing minimoog clone) and the Arturia Prophet-V.
I never got too intimate with the CS-80V softsynth, too many knobs and little buttons on there. Presets sound nice though.
I did buy it so I guess I should sit down with the manual and try and get more out of it.
On the Prophet I've created a whole bank of my own sounds soon. It's so lovely to use filter FM to create ringmod-like timbres.
And I've only started scratching at the Prophet VS surface.
I used to be a bigtime downloader of pirated VSTi's, but realised it made absolutely no sense to have millions of presets available when I spent 2 hours finding one sound I liked, and bothering with copy protections and cracked patches at all times.
Now I only use a couple that I paid for, and learn them really well instead.

Favorite Synth : EMS AVS (emulation EMS synthi AKS)/Moog Modular V2

Re: whats your favorite software?
- favorite synth?
Zebra 2, even though it's not been even released yet. It's completely and utterly amazing in both design and sound. Close second - Tassman. Filterscape VA (from the Filterscape bundle) gets a lot of use for "simple" synth sounds, as does CableGuys Curve.
- sequencer?
Ableton Live. EnergyXT seems very promising but I haven't had the time to delve into it properly. I've been contemplating getting into trackers as well again (haven't really done it since the Amiga days)...
- sampler?
If saying "Ableton Live" is out of question, I'd probably say ShortCircuit.
- audio effects?
Broad subject...BuzzRoom compressors, SimulAnalog GuitarSuite, Live's built-in effects.
- mastering plugins?
Pass.
- filters?
Filterscape
- plugins/audio software that might not fit perfectly into the above categorys?
I had a lot of random weird plugins...until I reinstalled Windows last night. Cutting down = good good good for actually writing music and not just wanking around with sounds.
