What synth to make those "club sounds"

Post by Tyggi » Wed Sep 19, 2007 12:36 am

I am looking for a nice softsynth to make powerful (!) "club" lead and bass sounds. I really like the sounds Jody den Broeder uses in his remix of Rihannas "Dont stop the music". http://www.mediafire.com/?fas0kr3jsli
Jody use native instruments and fabfilter softsynths.

Will NI Massive do the thing for me, or are there better alternatives?

Thanks.

I'd take a look at the synths by Rob Papen if you're looking for club sounds... I find them to be very modern sounding, and in a good way. Predator is probably the one you'd want for stronger bass/lead tones.

NI Massive will do most of these sounds but it's maze to find your way around it.

Power is relative. It's just not going to sound right like that "out of the box"; usually it's the combination and the mastering/equalizing/compression that does the trick. If you don't use that and keep this in mind, you're not going to get those results.

Compare (this is just an example to demonstrate the effects I made earlier for someone else):

Massive's presets won't, when you're going to tweak it, then yeah, it'll go places. Seconding Nexus and Vanguard, but once you learn how those sounds are made and the amount of polish that gets on it - that'll save you buying 4 softsynths ;).

Yoozer: Nice answer there. Yeah I really wanna learn how to use compression/eq to get that perfect result. I think I just have to sit down and tweak.
I just bought the fabfilter twin. It sounds really sweet! Give me a week or two and I´ve made some really "powerful" sounds! 8)

a LOT of delay, obviously... I'm also curious to know what else was involved though.

Sorry, I saw this too late.

A free softsynth called Xhip (by Aciddose) which has an incredibly unwieldy GUI that makes you want to kick puppies, and Ableton's built-in reverb and delay, plus the Fish Fillets Endorphin compressor (also free), and automation on the filter so it goes up and down gradually.

The first version is just without the automation and effects (aka how it sounds out of the box) to illustrate the example that you need more than the plugin itself, and that it's (usually) unreasonable to expect the "complete" sound to come out of the plugin.

"Superwave P8" is imho a great one, 'cause it's absolutely FREE ánd it simulates pretty well the Roland JP-8000 / JP-8080. Have fun !!

Refx's Vanguard is the best, but I recommend Image Lines Poizone synth, great Arps and bass sounds.

Cakewalks Z3TA plug in is pretty clubby.. I think there is about 100 appregiator patterns..

I want to check that Lallapalooza and SUperwave tonight.. It looks like a pretty cool synth.

Rob Papens Blue and the other red one he made looks killer. I downloaded Predator and the sounds are awesome. I would probably get that one instead of Blue and the other one.. Mainly because I understand the interface l.o.l.
