My best drum stuff comes from FLS too. I sometimes load up real loops as audio then duplicate them in the step sequencer using samples I like, but I usually just use the step sequencer.
I like a little less robotic sounding drums (I know..electronic music heresy) and have some history and skill playing real percussion, so I got a Handsonic which does a dandy job of adding some human element to the drums.

I don't use any of Redrum's built-in sounds. I have tons of samples of synths, real drums and other drum machines I use instead, and sometimes I dial up a drum-type sound in Subtractor or Maelstrom and use the virtual CV's to have Redrum trigger it. Lots of flexibility.thestreets wrote:I just feel like so many people use reason/redrum, that alot of sounds have been exhausted. Kind of like the triton. Although if you do some drum editing, you can get some good stuff.

That's what I like about FL is how quick it is to get nice sounding drum loops, ie. timestretch a break and then layer hits. Can do some really interesting combos. One of my complaints is no practical wave editing, Edison is pretty nice but requires stopping my loops to get particular.

have y'all tried the new slicex in FL8? looks rather tasty, though I haven't figured out how to work it, myself.
one thing I used to love doing, was slicing up a bunch of loops in phatmatic pro, and dragging various slices to the pads in dr008 (Battery may be able to do drag n drop, don't remember)..anyway, some unique kits made that way!

I had been thinking of getting rid of my MPD24 recently, so decided to fire it up with some soft synths and see what I could get going.
I wound up messing with Battery and was pretty amazed. I loaded a bunch of drum machine samples and tweaked tweaked tweaked. My previous times trying to dive into Battery I was using it for the wrong reasons. As a straight drum tool it seems pretty deep and useful. I figured out automation, which for some reason I couldn't before, and got into glitchy goodness sample editing...
Heres a tiny 15 second snippet of some of the stuff I got out of it. Thats Battery on beats, Steinberg A1 on bass, and Abakos + Sidboy on atmospheres. Everything was triggered with the MPD24.
So looks like I'm gonna keep my MPD and I've got a new drum tool to up my arsenal

What I use changes with my mood....
Emx1, Impulse (most usually these 2 together)
Sequence drums from midi (in live) to a mc307... lotsa good kits in there...
Or midi to my jomox airbase (which is in need of repair... so I can only sample the kits before it craps on me..)
I really like building kits from the evolver... dial up some percussive sounds... sample them, etc....
Fun

i've recently started to use guru after giving the demo another shot...
that program is a god damn beast. i set up a template on my remote sl with an akai drum controller - unbelievably fun and deep real time programming.
i honest can say that that program makes me never want to buy a mpc.
the work flow is impeccable and the few times you do you use the mouse with that program it isnt a chore since they made the mouse capable of some interesting functions.

With the combinator, you can build any configuration and FX automation...really impressive!!
