Great VSTs for Mac?

Post by impaler42 » Thu Feb 19, 2009 6:16 pm

I was wondering what were some of the best VSTs and plugins that are exclusive to Mac. Recently got a macbook and was wondering which new instruments to look into. Thanks.

The vast majority of commercial VST plugins run on Windows or Mac.

It's the free/shareware world that is lopsided on the Windows side.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

U-NO-62! Its a Juno 60 emulation. I liked it so much I decided I had to go buy an actual Juno 6 :)

Everything from Native Instruments. Massive is awesome. Also, U-He Zebra. Also, Rob Papen's stuff.

To supplement: any decent major softsynth manufacturer has OS X versions and any decent major softsynth manufacturer should have a demo on the site. Go start your downloading engines.

Here's a good list of free and legal softsynths for Mac:

As for stuff to buy, I really like impOSCar by GForce.

I know I plug this over and over and over again, but IMO Vember Audio's Surge defines everything a digital subtractive synth should be.

It's just amazing, and well worth the $150 to get it.

I found a real cool one called Minimonsta. Pretty sick, not exclusive to Mac either.
