$399 NI Komplete 5
Even though I really don't need any of the software in this package and indeed I prefer working with hardware on the sound generation end of things, the price is really tempting me. I would like to mess around with FM8 and Battery.
Worth it?

yeah this is really tempting.. this + a good controller keyboard would be everything one needs.. and that at under $1000.

Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
Depends on what you really need from it, if you only want FM8: I bought it last year for about €180 including shipping, so that's cheaper than the whole thing. Do you need a B3? Do you need a pro53? Etc.

Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
If you just want to "mess around" I assume you have already spent some time with the demos?
The package price is what you would pay for FM8 and Battery individually so really you're getting the rest for free. Kontakt 3 by itself sells for as much as the Komplete bundle!

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
I'd say the price is absolutely insane and it is definately worth it. The only NI app I have is Reaktor, and I'm inclined to say that just that one prog would justify the price they're now asking for the whole package. Most interesting imo is Reaktor, Kontakt and Absynth, but all these progs are high end quality stuff. If I had the money I wouldn't hesitate a millisecond.b3groover wrote:Even though I really don't need any of the software in this package and indeed I prefer working with hardware on the sound generation end of things, the price is really tempting me. I've kinda been tempted to play around with Reaktor so I will probably take the plunge and do this. It's just too tempting. I just need a coupla pending gear/record deals to get sold. I've had it up to here with deadbeats lately.

Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
Yeah, I've messed with the demos of almost all of the softsynths in that package. I don't care for B4 (I own multiple Hammonds and clonewheels... the B4 software just doesn't sound right). The Akoustik program might come in handy for background piano tracks. I have a real Rhodes that sounds killer, so the Elektrik piano is worthless to me. Pro53... meh. Absynth is cool but seems a bit like the Wavestation in that it has a sound that is very identifiable.
I think Battery is probably the one I want to mess with the most because I just got Groove Agent 3 and I'm always looking for more drum sounds. I do most of my drum programming in software these days.
Not sure about Massive or Reaktor.
CS_TBL, I played around with the original FM7 and thought it was fine, but your demos of what FM8 can do have made me more interested in it.
I don't know... need to think about it some more. I also want to start getting into modular synths so perhaps the money would be better spent in that area.

Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
That's an incredible price for an incredible bundle. A few of those packages would be close to worth that price by themselves. You would be hard-pressed to find hardware equivalents of Kontakt, Reaktor, and Absynth. Even FM8 is a new take on FM synthesis that makes it worth it. If you want to break it down by the numbers, this makes each component less than $37. You'd have to be crazy to pass up this deal if you needed even a small combination of any of the components.
Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
I'm with LBN on this one - at that price it's a steal. NI also just released updates/beta versions of Battery and Kontakt (and possibly others - but I own those two) that enhance compatibility with 64 bit memory addressing, though I've been running them under vista 64 for a while now without too many issues.

Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
I just don't know if I'm a softsynth guy. Have Mac OSX 10.4.11.
I bought impOscar online when I first started my rig. Fooled around with it for a coupla days and haven't touched it since. Found it buggy and kind of slow.
I bought Ableton Live Suite 8 with a deal because I got Live LE for free with an Mbox2Pro I bought second hand this summer and I haven't even installed it yet.
I'm intrigued by these mostly battery, reaktor and absynth. But it might just sit there. $399 is still $399.
I don't know. I get in the studio and I just want to play the hardware. Maybe when I get down to making actual tracks I will appreciate the software more.

Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
Yeah, I think I'm just gonna pass on the deal for now. Looks cool but at least 2/3rds of the package I know I'd never touch.
I have Ableton Suite 8 just sitting here and should dive into that first before I commit to anything else. $399 is still $399.

Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
Yeah, that's pretty much what I decided, too. $399 is a lot of money to me right now and most of that stuff I wouldn't use... so better to spend the money elsewhere.

Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
I picked it up (direct from NI) and it's backordered a bit so I won't get it for awhile.
Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
Decided to get it myself, so I'll be ordering it as soon as I get paid next week. This was just to big a bargain to let go, so even though I shouldn't due to my financial situation, I know I'll regret it dearly if I didn't buy it. It'll just mean I'll have to eat oatmeal exclusively the next month

Re: $399 NI Komplete 5
Come to think of it - could this campaign be due to an upcoming release of the next generation of these apps? I don't know NI's release history that well, but aren't the Komplete packages released a while after the newer generations have been introduced?
