Three video demos of the upcoming Akai Synth Station:

Mind you, these are on the iPad, but it was originally planned for the iPhone/iTouch.

Does anyone know if it would be a detriment to buy a 2nd gen ipod touch for music apps? Or do some of these apps need a 3rd gen? The 3rd gen models are only 32gb and 64gb so they're more expensive.. Apparently 3rd gen has faster processor, etc.

edit: or maybe wikipedia's just out of date, seems futureshop and ebay both refer to there being 8gb 3rd gen ipod touches. But I guess the question remains, does anything out today need the 3rd gen?

The 8Gb doesn't have the faster processor, it's basically identical to the standard 2nd Gen.

Interesting - not what I was lead to believe. They all run the same software and I cannot find the processor specs on the Apple site - thanks for letting me know. Glad I have the 32 gig at least!

I have both 2nd gen iTouch and iPhone 3GS along with several dozen music apps (big ones like beatmaker, noise.io, etc included). So far all apps I have working fine. Of course 3GS is much faster so loading time or complex patch (like with jasuto) and so on counts. I'm not sure for the future tho.

I ended up getting a used 1st gen ipod touch. It also can play everything but I think the polyphony is lower on some of the groovebox apps. Oh well, beatmaker is really professional and runs great. I'm really impressed with it.

Jasuto Pro has been updated. You should all buy it if you haven't already.

very, very cool.

i'm guessing this would be available for the ipad too?

if so...these seems like, in addition to a couple of other apps, a good enough reason to buy an ipad and add it in to the studio lineup.

I don't think there's a native iPad version just yet, but it's promised and the development is very active.

It's really good, sounds great, and quite unique in some ways, like the motion control for nodes. All the control signals are calculated at audio rates as well.

I don't think Morphwiz is out on the iPod Touch yet, but when it is it should be cool.
I'm a synth newborn, a stillborn if not.

...ew.

Akai's Synth Station 25 hit the stores today (well, Sweetwater anyway). I've played the prototype and, frankly, didn't care for the keys, but it's a start in the right direction.

I would really love to see an interface that allows the iPod to be used with a standard MIDI keyboard (Line 6, etc.).
